Sean Ower - About

Hi! My name is Sean Ower (as you've probably gathered) and I'm a multi-media creative. Some of my favorite forms include performance, composition, scriptwriting, and photography. You can learn more about some of my projects below! If you're interested in contacting me, feel free to use the contact page on this website or follow me on social media (I love talking to people!).
Performance

I've been performing in Musical Theatre since I was 8 years old! I started my theatre journey at CAT (Christian Arts & Theater) in my hometown, with my very first musical being Mary Poppins. I booked my first paid job only a couple years later as Wilbur, in Charlotte's Web, and after that I never looked back. Fast forward to high-school where I was consistently working at the California Theater of the Performing Arts in San Bernardino, CA. It was around this time when I introduced a new aspect of performance into my life; I became the lead singer of a cover band called Lost Signal. Though it only lasted a year or so, I found my love for a different type of performance which would continue its journey into my college life. During my high school summers I attended the NYU and OCU Music Theater programs to further my training.

I continue to pursue Musical Theatre in college at Western Michigan University where I am getting my BFA in Musical Theatre Performance. Immediately I found an outlet for creativity– my roommates and I started a band called Four on the Floor, un-cleverly named after the musical term but also because we lived on the fourth floor. I was the lead singer and keyboardist. The band ended up 'touring' Michigan the summer after, with five-or-so gigs around the area. Since then I've continued performing on stage, with some of my favorite credits being Sweeney Todd in Stephen Sondheim's "Sweeney Todd", Borba in Kyle David Battle's original musical "The Dead Memoirs", Jay in Neil Simon's "Lost in Yonkers", and Widener/Major in Maury Yeston's "Titanic".

Composition

During the global pandemic of 2020, I used my free time teaching myself piano. I had no idea what I was doing, but I wanted to write songs. On a late 2000s iMac, I would use my limited knowledge of GarageBand to make music. I released my first ever single to Spotify in 2020 titled "The Days You Loved", using a music distribution platform that, since then, has stopped supporting my release. After buying my first desktop computer, I downloaded Ableton Live and started creating on there. I taught myself about microphones, interfaces, mixing, mastering, and other composition skills. But it wasn't until 2023 that I would start transcribing my music and writing Musical Theatre specific compositions. Now, using the many skills I've learned over time, I compose using Logic Pro, Ableton Live, and MuseScore to write for many different purposes.

Photography

I've been taking photos since I was 10 years old– capturing the wonders of my home state, California, on an old film camera I found in my house. I took and displayed my first ever film photos in fifth grade, and since then I haven't stopped taking pictures. I would capture photos on my phone all throughout high school and for my first couple years of college, until I picked up my first digital camera. Using this, I started taking pictures for other people under the name 'Ower Photography' and I continue to do so today. If you're interested in my photography, I have an online portfolio (clickable link) that might be worth checking out!

Scriptwriting

I've always been interested in telling stories. From a young age I would write short stories during school or create little plays with my friends. In 2021 I started writing my first musical. I didn't know what I was doing at all, but I knew I wanted to write one. I started writing on google docs, attempting to mimic MTI layouts and whatnot. While I was writing my first draft, I also explored writing short films using WriterDuet, a free software. Fast forward to now where I'm proficient in Final Draft and currently working on my fourth draft of an original musical and two screenplays. I have one finished play "Do You Have Eight Minutes?" which is currently unpublished. A production of my original musical "Twenty/Twenty" will be produced my senior year at Western Michigan University in 2028.
